Mark Steven Bangert, 61, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Born on May 19, 1962 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Beckman) Bangert. He attended Homestead High School where he played football and basketball, and performed in the theater and choir. He then graduated from Purdue University of IPFW with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He started for the IPFW Men’s Volleyball Team under Coach Ball while also performing in the theater and choir. After graduation, Mark was a Youth Services Counselor and excelled at helping all the young adults with everything that he could. Later in life, he drove professionally and was the care giver for both of his parents as they aged. Always the fiercest of competitors, he loved playing all sports, and coaching and watching his sons play. He was also the Head Coach of the IPFW Women’s Volleyball Team for multiple seasons. He was a “triple threat” with a wonderful voice, incredible dancing abilities, and acting talents. Mark was very close with his siblings, and he enjoyed family gatherings where they would all play dice and card games with their parents and significant others. He was a movie and music connoisseur, and enjoyed a wide variety of genres in both forms of media. Above all else, Mark was the most loving, caring, and compassionate father and family member. Mark is survived by his children, Anthony (Rebecca Jacobs) Bangert, Nicholas (Jenna Stedman) Bangert, and Erik (Briana) Derrow; his grandson Rhett Bangert; his sisters, Teresa (Mark Colone) Ohneck and Cheryl Ripley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Bangert; and his sister Laura Martin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1102 S. Clinton St., Fort Wayne (46802) with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Mark will be laid to rest at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
