Susan K. Hood, 77, of Fort Wayne slipped away quietly on her journey Home surrounded by family on March 30, 2024 at Coventry Meadows, Ft. Wayne, IN. Susan enjoyed visiting the Paw Paw Michigan area over the years to spend time with family and friends. She attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Paw Paw on a regular basis when she visited the Hood Farms Family Dairy with her husband Keith. Susan was born December 21,1946 in Ft. Wayne and married Keith N. Hood April 9, 1988. She was a charter member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and a 1965 graduate of Bishop Luers High School. She also was a member of the baton twirlers at Bishop Luers High School. Susan was a qualified medical assistant at Saint Anne's Nursing Home, Parkview Hospital and Brighton Hall Nursing Center in New Haven. She was involved with Toastmasters since 1988 and currently served as secretary and treasurer of the Bob Leiman Toastmasters Club. She was Toastmasters District 11 Secretary when her husband, Keith, was District 11 Governor 1988-89 when District 11 was awarded the President's Distinguished District Honor in 1988-89. Susan volunteered for the American Red Cross, Lutheran Hospital and the Women's Care Center. She was a past extraordinary Eucharistic minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, served communion to shut-ins and was a former member of the choir. She was a past member of the Red Hats Ladies. Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who shined as an example to all in her strong Catholic faith and devotion to her family. She was an incredibly strong woman with a generous and kind heart. Susan was always thinking of others. She enjoyed playing cards and in her last days was an unbeatable mancala player. Kawiecki married to Rose who survives, Charley (Amelia Inches) Drury; aunts, Doris Kawiecki married to Chester who survives, Mary T. (Eugene Paul) Kerr, Virginia (Ralph) Doehrman and Marie J. (Ed) Spagnuolo; cousins, David P. Kerr, Mary Jane Kerr Jilek and Rick Spagnuolo; grandparents, Joseph Francis (Helen Gallant) Kawiecki and Charles Francis (Emma Caroline Gunkel) Drury; great grandparents, Joseph (Pauline Kaszkowska) Gallant and Otto (Theresa Freiburger) Gunkel. Mass of Christian Burial was 11am, Friday, April 5, 2024, co-celebrated by Fr. Terry Coonan and Fr. Glenn Kohrman with assistance by Deacon Jerry Kohrman. Pianist Jeanne Kawiecki and cantor David Zehr were in charge of the music and Susan's youngest son Andrew Landgraf gave the eulogy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd. with calling one hour prior. Calling was also Thursday, April 4, 2024, 3 to 7 pm with the Rosary led by Fr. Glenn Kohrman at 7 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Ft. Wayne. Burial with graveside service led by Pastor Justin Warner was 11 am Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Cuddeback Cemetery, Paw Paw, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to EWTN Network, NAMI Ft. Wayne, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or for Masses. Using one of Susan's favorite sayings " See you later Alligator."
