July 8, 1924 – July 31, 2025
Albert J. "Abe" Bragalone, 101, of Fort Wayne, finished a long, well-lived life, entering into eternal peace on Thursday, July 31, 2025. Born July 8, 1924, Abe was dedicated to his family, especially his loving wife of 78 years , Glenda (Van Zant), 97, who preceded him in death last year.
Abe served as a proud public servant for much of his life. A graduate of Central High School, Abe joined the US Navy and served for 4 years during WWII. Upon returning home, he joined the Fort Wayne Police Department, where he served 29 years holding every rank including Chief of Police. In 1970, Abe was shot and wounded in the line of duty. He designed the badge that FWPD officers proudly wear to this day. Abe was dedicated to safety and was noted for his significant developments and improvements in the department's operations and community relations. He enjoyed taking part in the department's "Shop with a Cop" program. After retiring from the police department, he served as Director of Veterans Affairs for the city of Fort Wayne for 10 years.
Along with his beloved wife Glenda, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Giovanni "John" and Felicita "Phyllis" (Lotti), and his beloved brothers Joseph (Geraldine) and Italo (Marilyn). A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Abe is survived by his children Jeanne Schneider (Eric), Jon Bragalone (Kelly), and Phyllis Jehl (Greg), 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are 11:00am Thursday August 7, 2025 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with visitation from 10-11am. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park with the F.O.P. graveside service and Honor Guard. The family's preferred memorials are Paradigm Hospice, 10020 Lima Rd. Fort Wayne 46818 and Home Bound Meals, 611 W. Berry St. Fort Wayne 46802.
