Alan A. Alter, 74, of Vista, California and formerly of Fort Wayne, died December 4, 2023 in Vista. Al was born in Fort Wayne on June 13, 1949, the oldest of eleven children born to (the late) Edgar J. and Elsie (Ryan) Alter. He graduated from Bishop Luers High School with the Class of '67 and attended IPFW before joining the US Marine Corps, where he served his country proudly and with distinction during the Vietnam Conflict. He later completed his education at Eastern New Mexico University. Al was interested in Boxing; having won several bouts in high school, he pursued his interest while in the Marines where he won several championship bouts. He also was an accomplished amateur photographer, at one point having one of his local baseball photos make the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Al is survived by his siblings, Rorie Alter of Glendale AZ, Nicholas Alter of Sun City West AZ, Mark Alter of Phoenix AZ, Lisa Alter of Fort Wayne, Clayton Alter of Phoenix AZ, Laure (Michael) Spangler of Fort Wayne, Hugh (Giselle) Alter of Peoria AZ, Brian Alter of Phoenix AZ, Paul (Sylvia) Alter of Glendale AZ, Maury Alter of Fort Wayne and several nieces & nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00am Friday January 19, 2024 in St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd. with visitation from 10-11am in the church. He will be laid to rest in Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements through Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave.
