Alex D. Cameron, 85 of Greenwood, Indiana died on December 15, 2018. Born Alexander Donald Cameron on April 28, 1933 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the son of the late Edward and Marion (Sutherland) Cameron. He grew up in Fort Wayne with 11 brothers and sisters, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951. Alex earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Business Administration in 1955. He went on to receive his Master’s in Logistics Management. He enrolled in the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He studied navigation, taught ROTC, worked in the office of the Inspector General, worked on the B-1 Bomber acquisition program and spent many years as a Senior Contracting Officer. Alex was stationed in Rome, NY, Wiesbaden, Germany, Dayton, OH, Utica, NY and Las Cruces, NM. Retiring from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel (Lt. Col) after 23 years of service in 1978, he went on to work for Goodyear Aerospace as an expert in government contracting in Akron, Ohio until retirement in 1998. Alex married Rita Ann Schwieters who graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1956 from Saint Frances College in Fort Wayne. They raised 5 children, Stephen Michael, Amy Maureen, Anne Frances, John David and Alex Findley. Alex loved camping, fishing, playing cards, croquet, watching or listening to his beloved Chicago Cubs and in particular, watching Indiana University basketball and football. He is survived by his devoted wife Rita, son Steve of Cleveland, Ohio, daughter Amy and son-in-law John Price of Somerset, Kentucky, daughter Anne of Indianapolis, Indiana, son John and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and son Alex of Frederick, Maryland. Grandchildren Chris of Somerset, Emily of Seattle, Washington, Eric and Sean of Somerset and Ian and Gracye of Chapel Hill. Sisters Sylvia Valentine of Fremont, Indiana and Minnie Weaver of Tucson, Arizona. Alex was proceeded in death by his parents Edward and Marion and siblings Mary, Annie, Jay, Margaret “Marge”, William, Findley, Edward, Murdock and Amy. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday December 21, 2018 at 10:30am at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S Clinton St. Fort Wayne, IN., with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 4pm till 7pm Thursday December 20, 2018 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, Indiana with a vigil at 6:45pm.
