Allen Furr Dewey, was born on December 2, 1944, in Greenville, North Carolina, youngest of 5 children to Jean Dewey and Vivian (Avery) Dewey. Most of his childhood (from age 4) was in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He passed away peacefully in his home, near his wife, on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
He enjoyed basketball and baseball, and was a paperboy for a number of years, while in school. Allen excelled in academics, and graduated from West Chester High School (Henderson H.S.) in 1962. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969, where he was stationed in Newfoundland and In Hof, Germany, in the Vietnam war era. He was a veteran. After the Air Force he worked at Wyeth Labs, while attending school. Allen graduated from Villanova University in 1976 with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was always known as a hard worker. He had a good sense of humor and wit.
Allen Dewey's closest friends were work at ITT, Fort Wayne, where he worked in the U.S. Army Field Office for most of his years of Government work (nearly 25 years). This is where he met his wife-to-be, Caroline. Also, Allen knew many people from years of bike tours, where he rode 50 or 100 miles in organized bike rides, and locally in Fort Wayne in the Trek-The-Trails events. He was a Fort Wayne Trails supporter, and American Legion member. He thoroughly enjoyed the Air Force "fly overs", when Fort Wayne began their big summer parade for the festival each year.
Allen Dewey was married to Caroline (Freiburger) Dewey in 2001 and together they raised three children, Patrick (Chiara) Ayelle, Marie (Angelo) Mante, and Sunni (Nozomi) Ayelle, and have 9 grandchildren; Sophia Mante, Naomi Mante, Vincent "Vinny" Mante, Simone Mante and Emmanuel "Manny" Mante, Riona Ayelle, and Giorgia Ayelle, Giulia Ayelle & Gloria Ayelle. Also surviving are his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Rigler, and Arthur (Helen) Dewey. His parents, brother-in-law Stuart Rigler, along with brothers Don and John preceded him in death. He enjoyed bike riding, discussing sports & politics, travel, books, and was especially fond of playing cards and the grandchildren. Allen loved Caroline very much, and told her "I love you" nearly every day.
