Benjamin James Horrell passed away at Lutheran Hospital on October 2, 2026, after a brief illness.
Ben was born April 23,1973, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Bishop Luers High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering technology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Fort Wayne.
Ben married Cheryl (Hinshaw) Horrell on December 4th, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. They were blessed with two children, Max and Kyle, and enjoyed building their life together in Fort Wayne.
Ben spent almost 30 years of his career with Raytheon Systems as a computer software engineer. He also volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul Society and helped with many different projects at St. Mary’s. He enjoyed live music (especially The Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett), Star Wars, travel, history, discovering art, new recipes, and Formula One Racing. Above all, Ben will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and loyal friend.
Ben is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Max and Kyle; mother, Marilyn (Klingenberger) Horrell; sister, Miranda (Joel) Rockey; brother, Nicholas (Beth) Horrell; one niece and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Horrell.
Visitation will be held 3-7pm on Thursday, October 8th at Divine Mercy Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Friday, October 9th at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ben’s memory to St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen (stmarysfw.org) or to The National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org).
