Bette Worley, 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday July 31, 2025. Bette was born in Washington DC on May 20, 1943, the daughter of (the late) Robert J. and Elizabeth A. (Ordowski) Tarte. She earned her master's degree from Marquette University. She began her career as a University Admissions Counselor for the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She then dedicated 44 years to the National Student Exchange where she was the former President. She traveled extensively for recruitment, created relationships and connected people around the world. Bette was also a member of the National Faculty Exchange.
On December 20, 1967, Bette married David W. Worley, who survives along with her brother, Robert Tarte of Lowell MI, her nephews Mark (Marcia) Zaroogian of Ellicott City MD, Michael (Lisa) Zaroogian of McKinney TX, Lewis (Jenna) Worley of Clearwater FL, and niece Katherine Worley of Largo FL.
In addition to her parents, Bette was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Tarte Smith.
Bette was devout in her Catholic faith. She was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Among other activities, she served on the Parish Council, Welcome Center, numerous Bible studies and led the St. John the Evangelist Small Faith Group. She was passionate about her mission work with the Christ Child Society where she served as former Recording Secretary. Bette had sponsored children in third world countries through World Vision since 1973. Bette was available to volunteer in big and small roles wherever assistance was needed. Her neighbors and many friends would consider her as family and were inspired by her amazing generosity, compassion and organizational skills.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Thursday August 7, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd. with visitation from 9:30-10:30am in the church. Burial will follow on Thursday afternoon with graveside services at 2:30pm in Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Ave. The family's preferred memorials are the Christ Child Society, St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or World Vision.
