Betty A. Wood, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on November 18, 1931, in Gary, IN, she dedicated her life to her family, and creating countless memories and a welcoming space for all.
Betty was a proud homemaker who poured her heart into caring for her three sons: Marty (Nancy) of McCordsville, IN, Larry (Anne) of Kuna, ID, and Tom (Lisa) of Fort Wayne, IN. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her strong and loving spirit, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her laughter and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Betty loved sports – especially watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sporting and other activities. She was never shy to make sure the refs made the right calls.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Anna (Cirak) Hronec and her sister, Marion Pfautz. Betty had eight grandchildren – Sarah (John) Williams, Aaron Wood, Michelle (Robb) Whitney, Adam (Jessica) Wood, David Wood, Christopher (Michelle) Wood, John (Melyssa) Wood, and Michael Wood. Betty also had thirteen great-grandchildren – Weston, Grant, Scarlett, Tommy, Matthew, Isabelle, Gabriella, Zoe, Liam, Stella, Lennon, Theodore, Gregory, and two nieces.
Betty's life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd., Fort Wayne, IN, on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather for a Public Visitation at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748, on May 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM where memories will be shared and stories will be told.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love that will always be remembered. Rest easy, Betty. You will be missed more than words can say. Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School. Online condolences may be left at www.divinemercyfuneralhome.com.
