Robert E. Cayot, 92, of Fort Wayne, died peacefully at home, on Saturday May 2, 2026. Bob was born near Union Center in Wells Co. on June 6, 1933, the son of the late Roy J. and Martha (Hebner) Cayot. He graduated from Union Center High School with the Class of ’51.
Bob retired from BF Goodrich as the Maintenance Foreman in 1990 after 23 years with the company. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the choir; he had sung in church choirs since he was 12 years of age. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a former Grand Knight. Bob was also a member of the Moose Lodge in New Haven.
An ardent sportsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football, IU Basketball, the Atlanta Braves and also enjoyed the WNBA, following Caitlin Clark with the Indiana Fever.
Bob is survived by his wife, Janice (Fairfield) Cayot; daughter, Rev. Marita (Joseph) Smith of Monticello, IN; sons, James Robert (Janet) Cayot of Fort Wayne, Roy Edward (Vicky) Cayot of Marion IL, Robert L. (Beth) Cayot of Fort Wayne; step-sons, Bradley (Joyce) Wolfe and Russell F. Wolfe, both of Fort Wayne; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by sisters, Marilyn Kaltenmark of Huntington, IN and Carolyn Goebel of Marion, IN and brother, Dale (Jane) Cayot of Lebanon OH.
In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by brothers, Harold Cayot, Eugene Cayot, Manford Cayot and Richard Cayot, and sisters, Cathleen Lloyd, Ileen Kern, Mildred Springer and Marcella Shaw.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday, June 5, 2026 in St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd. with visitation from 10-11am in the church. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed at 9:00am.
