Obituary

Bruce E. Buchan, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024.  His devoted wife, Chris, who has been by his side since their marriage on October 14, 2000, was at his side when he died. Bruce was born on April 3, 1958, to Winfield and Velma (McDonald) Buchan. Bruce graduated from Bishop Luers High School and Indiana University School of Business and worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area until his retirement in 2010.  Bruce was passionate about his friends and family and loved spending time with them at his cottage on Coldwater Lake where he would fire up the smoker and cook fabulous meals for them. He loved giving "exhilarating" tube rides to his nieces and nephews and was always available as a fishing caddy to bait hooks and remove fish for squeamish anglers.  Bruce and Chris loved to spend time with their family.   They eagerly awaited spending Christmas at his brother Dan's house with Dan's children and grandchildren. They traveled, even in winter, to visit his sister Kathleen and her family in Minneapolis.  They enjoyed frequently visiting their three godchildren and "honorary grandkids" Matt, Thomas, and Caroline, and their parents, Nicole and Michael House. He was a mentor to many and his advice always included a good dose of humor. Bruce's hobbies included I.U. basketball, trying and perfecting new recipes, woodworking, and old movies. Bruce was a man of faith who frequently prayed the rosary and watched daily mass.  Bruce had a great love for his beloved dogs, most especially, Boo-Boo and Princess.  Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Win and Velma, his sister Carolyn, and in-laws Bill and JoAnn Shrader. He is survived by his wife, Christina, sister Kathleen Moccio (Vincent) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, brother Daniel Buchan (Luanne) of Decatur, Indiana, sisters-in-law Cathleen Shrader (James Fenton) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Cynthia Conway (Joseph) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, his uncle, William McDonald (Diana) of Cedar Lake, Indiana, nieces and nephews Joe, Clif, Brent, Ned, Nan, Jay, Vincent, Wayne, Andrew, Cal, Erin, and Renny, and many cousins especially John McDonald with whom he shared a love of sports and spirits. Bruce, to paraphrase you, we loved to love you baby and we will miss you greatly.  The family thanks the extraordinary staff at the Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Center in Avon, Ohio for their care and compassion.  Dr. Saman Ghaffari, Emily in Rehab, Nikki in Dialysis, and Honeybun at the nursing station – you are the best!   Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Friday, September 20, 2024, at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 pm with rosary at 4:30 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne. Burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial Contributions in honor of Bruce Buchan may be made to EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Rd., Irondale, AL 35210.
