Carl Lee Fowler, age 96, of Ft. Wayne IN was born Sept 23, 1929 and passed away March 10, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He is the beloved husband of 71 years to Mary M. (Luedeke) and father to Marc (Carolyn), Lori, Julie and the late Brian Fowler.
He graduated in the class of ’48 from Central High School and later continued studies at the Indiana Institute of Technology. He was drafted into the Army in ‘51 and served as the Radio Sgt., 327th Operations Detachment in Japan.
Carl was the 3rd eldest of the eight children born to Glenn and Avis (Madden) Fowler. Being a child growing up during the depression, he was taught and embraced the values known to be of the greatest generation. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Lois Stana, James Fowler, Phyllis Gates, William Fowler and is survived by siblings: Joann Miller, Jack Fowler and Kay McCabe.
He grew up in an atmosphere of pranks, jokes and wonderful story telling. These fun antics were passed on to future generations.
Faith was the center of Carl’s life. He and Mary are Charter Members of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Carl enjoyed golfing, camping, mushroom hunting and fishing. He also loved to travel. His family looked forward to the yearly vacations and adventures. Carl’s favorite being his trip to Alaska. He boasted about being in all 50 states. He and Mary also travelled abroad to many wonderful countries.
After a 26-year career in the Engineering Dept, he retired from Dana Corp. Carl then became a key member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 1. He participated in school presentations, local television educational programs and parades. He was very proud to be a part of the Korean Veterans exhibit at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum of which he served as a board member. He also was a past Honor Guard member for the American Legion Post 82.
There will be a visitation held from 4:00p – 7:00pm on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30pm. A Mass will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46815. There will be a one hour prior visitation at the church. Entombment will follow at Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne. Military Honors will take place with the US Army at the cemetery.
