Carol Jean
Swartz
July 28, 1941 – May 20, 2025
Carol Jean Swartz (nee Chandler) passed on in the home of her eldest son in Fort Wayne, Indiana Monday May 20th, 2025. Born July 28, 1941, was a member of Chorus and graduated from North Side High School in 1960 where she met her future husband and father of her children. Cherished mother of Julie Ann Sell, Rob Kuruda and Christopher (Penny) Kuruda. Grandmother of, Lauren (Jason) Boyles, Landon (Olivia) Sell, Connor Michael (Chianna) Kuruda, Kelly (Zach) Dawson, Jessica (Alex) Dove, and fifteen Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her grandson Chance Stephan Kuruda, her mother and father, two sisters, Barbara (Don) Perl and Sandra Kay Rose. As a child, and perhaps aided by the fact her father was a railroad Trainmaster, Carol was reported to have been complimented by President Harry S. Truman as he conducted his railroad campaign through Fort Wayne in 1948. Carol worked as a gas station attendant in the early 1970's, which was a novel occupation for women at the time. Carol also worked in the Dental and Vision healthcare service sectors to contribute to raising her family. She was greatly admired and appreciated by those she helped. Carol loved cats and kittens and provided home for many over the years. She was also an avid college basketball and football fan. She was a superb old-school cook who could craft delicious meals out of simple ingredients. Carol was fond of volunteering her children's uncompensated assistance to neighbors when they needed help.
Carol wished to be cremated and as such, no formal visitation service has been planned. A Celebration of Life has been planned for Saturday, July 26 from 12 Noon to 5 PM to be held at 5921 Mirando Drive Fort Wayne, Indiana. Come one and all when you can to give condolences or share your favorite memories of Carol. Donations may be made to the ASPCA.
