Obituary

Carol Beaty Thomas, 81, of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6th, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. She was born on June 23, 1942, in Jersey City, NJ, to the late George Mogel and Genevieve (Konopka) Mogel.

A long-time member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Fort Wayne, Carol was devout in her faith and active in the church. Due to the skills she acquired as a bookkeeper, she spent many a Sunday counting the collection after the weekend masses. A devoted wife and mother, raising her children was her priority in life, and she took great pride in their achievements. In her years as a mom, she enjoyed cheering for the Irish, teaching her children how to body surf, and camping throughout the Southeast United States. She especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, fishing from the dock of her lake house, making S'mores around the bonfire, enjoying fireworks on the Fourth of July, always providing fun snacks, trapping blue crabs at the Jersey Shore, and relishing in the sights and sounds of the ocean, whether in New Jersey or Hawaii. Carol has been described by those who knew her as a wonderful, understanding, loving, and compassionate woman. In addition, Carol had a strong spirit, raising two teenagers alone after the death of her first husband, as well as a kind soul and a calming presence.

Her parents, her brother, John Mogel, her former husband, Patrick G. Beaty, and Patrick Stewart preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, William Thomas of Fort Wayne, IN, her children: Linda (Joseph) Collins of La Grange Park, IL, Brian (Julie) Beaty of Orchard Lake, MI, and William's children: Valerie (Steve) Bennet of Fort Wayne, IN, Ginger Thomas of East TN and Angelique Deuitch of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Alexandra, Liam, Nolan, Bridget, and Declan, as well as William's grandchildren: Madeline, Athena, Claire, Breanna, and Gavin.
