Darrell A. Boothby, 79, of New Haven, died Thursday March 6, 2025. He was born in Huntington WV on April 25, 1945, the son of (the late) Charles and Geraldine (Saunders) Boothby. Darrell served his country with honor in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, and on September 5, 1969 he married Kathleen (Young) Boothby, who survives along with their children, Andy (Jennifer) Boothby of Upper Arlington OH and Kristina (Tim) Harding of Springfield OH; grandchildren, Ayden Boothby and Conner Boothby, both of Upper Arlington OH and Zach (Jordan) Harding, Andrew (Jenna) Harding, Eli Harding and Alexys Harding, all of Springfield OH; Trevor (Shelbie) Harding of St. Paris OH and his great-grandchildren, Luna Belle, Sylas, Tucker and Ensley. Also surviving are his brother, Ted (Donna) Boothby of Huber Heights OH and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Darrell was also preceded in death by his brother David Boothby; niece, Teresa and grandniece, Maria Boothby.
He retired from International Harvester/Navistar in 1999, after 34 years with the company. Darrell was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was devout in his faith. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Secular Franciscan Order; he was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, taught religious education (CCD) and served as a Eucharistic Minister and with the Homebound Ministry. Darrel was also a member of the American Legion, and he enjoyed camping with family & friends, and caring for his pets, especially his cat Sammy. Darrell loved and cherished his family; he had a love for life and enjoyed any opportunity to make people happy, and he loved hearing their laughter. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Thursday March 13, 2025, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers Street, New Haven, with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Darrell will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements through Divine Mercy Lake Avenue Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave.
