October 3, 1938 – January 18, 2026
David L. Barnum, 87, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday January 18, 2026 at Stillwater Hospice Home. Dave was born October 3, 1938 in Muncie, the son of the late Paul Barnum Sr. and Mary (Daubenmeier) Barnum. On August 19,1961, David married Janet E. (Derheimer) Barnum; Jan survives, along with their children, Stephanie (John) McKeone of Chicago, Julie (Jim) Bloomfield of Van Wert OH, and Jim (Michele) Barnum, Anne Barnum and Dan (Bridget) Barnum, all of Fort Wayne; their grandchildren, Evan (Jenna) Hammons of Medina OH, Grace (Craig) Fullenkamp of Fort Loramie OH, Sydney Barnum and Dylan Barnum, both of Chicago, Alyssa Barnum of Indianapolis, and Addison Barnum, Louis Barnum and Margaret Barnum, all of Fort Wayne, and 3 great-grandchildren, Remi and Reese Fullenkamp, and Harper Hammons.
In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Barnum Jr, Phillip Barnum, Charles Barnum, Eugene Barnum, and Thomas Barnum; sisters, Ila B. Yaney and Joyce Snyder, and a grandson, Luke Barnum.
David was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Janet, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage marked by love, laughter, and deep commitment to family. David retired in 2013, after a career that included his work as a CPA and CFO, as well as teaching at the high school and college levels. He took great pride in his career as a Certified Public Accountant, known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and steady guidance throughout a long and successful career.
A faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, David lived a life guided by strong faith and values. David also enjoyed being a Little League coach for Shank Brothers, he found joy in fishing, being outdoors, and, most of all, time spent with his family.
David will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the steady presence he was to all who knew him.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday January 24, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 Fairfield Ave. with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Visitation also on Friday from 4-7pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. The family's preferred memorials are the scholarship programs at St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Bishop Luers High School, either through Scholarship Granting Organization of Northeast Indiana, online at sgo@diocesefwsb.org or by mail to 915 S.
