Obituary

David Richard "Buck" Buckmaster, 75, of Fort Wayne, beloved and cherished husband of Julie, ran into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday August 2, 2024. David was born in Fort Wayne on March 4, 1949, the son of (the late) Harry and Josephine (Case) Buckmaster. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by siblings, Tom and Jerry Buckmaster, and Janet Dembickie. He is survived by his wife Julie Buckmaster and also by his sister, Julie Lee. David grew UP quickly and played basketball at St. Paul Lutheran Grade School, Northwood Middle School and North Side High School. There he caught the eye of college recruiters; he attended NYU on a full scholarship and played at Madison Square Garden. He graduated with a degree in Banking & Finance and began working at GTE Indiana. It was there he met his loving wife Julia, and they were married on July 26, 1986. Buck had a great sense of humor, was a talented woodworker, and loved to visit northern Michigan, fishing and researching his family history. In his younger days he DJ'd at parties and receptions and had a tremendous collection of 45's. Buck was a loyal fan of IU basketball and Coach Bob Knight. He was a good, honorable and faithful husband, brother, "Uncle Buck" and friend. He has battled multiple health challenges since 2012 and overcame tremendous odds, over and over again, with our Lord's help. His final days were spent at AMG, an LTAC hospital in Muncie, under the care of a wonderful team of doctors, nurses and techs who provided loving care and encouragement as he fought one last battle. Funeral Services will be held at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. at 11:00am Friday August 9, 2024, with visitation from 10-11am. Visitation is also on Thursday from 5-7pm in the funeral home. The burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in honor of Buck, to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1126 Barr St. Fort Wayne, IN or to WBCL, 1115 W. Rudisill Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN 46807. To share a remembrance of Buck or to offer condolences, please visit DivineMercyFuneralHome.com.
