David G. Lechleitner, 83, of Fort Wayne, died Monday, June 22, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages. He was born in Fort Wayne on September 17, 1942, the son of (the late) Gilbert and Mary Ellen (Henschen) Lechleitner. David married Nancy (Packer) Lechleitner on January 11, 1963; she preceded him in death on July 17, 2016, after 53 years of marriage. David is also preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Nichols and Donna Straub, and his brother, Jim Lechleitner.
He is survived by his son, Marc (Christine) Lechleitner of Hoagland; grandchildren, Jerome Lechleitner of Chicago, Natalie (Conner) Bleke of Fort Wayne, and Erika (Logan) Burdick of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Asher Bleke and Rory Burdick.
David was a modern Renaissance man. Throughout his life, he worked as a hair stylist, entrepreneur, dog trainer, farmer, teacher at Anthis Career Center, and realtor. He also served in the Indiana state government, served on the board of CTN, and prepared dinners at Nine Mile, where he was known as “Chicken Dave.” He served in the community with HAAA, Heritage Lions Club, and as a United Patriots officer at Heritage High School. He loved playing cards, traveling, and supporting the Cubs as a season ticket holder. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and his friends were always in his thoughts and actions. He especially loved vacationing with family and friends at Clearwater Beach. David will be remembered as a selfless member of his community. Among his many remarkable qualities, his greatest were being a devoted husband and a fantastic father. He did everything for his son and wife. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 27, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., with visitation from 10-11 am. Visitation will also be held on Friday, June 26, from 3-8 pm at Divine Mercy. Burial will be in the Fort Wayne Catholic Cemetery.
