Hathaway
July 27, 1934 – December 12, 2024
Richard L. Hathaway, 90, of Marble Lake in Quincy, MI and formerly of New Haven, died Thursday December 12, 2024 at Coldwater Regional Hospital. Dick was born in New Haven July 27, 1934, the son of the late Morton "Hap" Hathaway and Erma (Rose) Hathaway. Dick graduated from New Haven High School with the Class of '53 and continued his studies at Purdue. He served his country honorably in the US Army and on September 10, 1960, Dick married Betty (Reuille) Hathaway, who survives along with their daughters; Laura (Paul) Gammons, Nancy (Chip) Vandell and Sharon (Jason) Garrett, all of Fort Wayne; sons, Gordon (Cris) Hathaway and Rex Hathaway, both of New Haven; brother, Donald Hathaway of Asheville NC; 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Yagodinski, Dorothy Ford and Marjorie Norton.
Dick was employed as a mechanic for Dana Corp; he retired to their Marble Lake home in 1991 and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish in Coldwater, MI. He was profoundly patriotic and had tremendous respect for God, flag & country; he served on the Color Guard at both the New Haven and Quincy American Legion Posts. Dick was a staunch Detroit Tigers fan, but his true joy was the time spent with his family & friends. He was a wonderful husband, father & grandfather who will be dearly missed.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday December 20, 2024 in St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St. New Haven, with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Visitation also from 4-8pm Thursday at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with the Rosary at 4:00pm. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in New Haven. The family's preferred memorials are Masses or to the Quincy American Legion Post 157, 104 E. Chicago St., Quincy, MI 49082.
