Edna Barnes, 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. Born on December 15, 1940, in Sartinville, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Dudley and Larcel (Quin) Barnes. Edna worked as a cook in food service at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne for over 30 years until her retirement. When not working, she enjoyed cooking for her family and just simply being there for them as a wife and mother. She loved being with her grandchildren and was proud of all of them. Faith was important to Edna, and she often attended services at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Earnest Young, Wayne Young, Bobby Young, Elissa Maye, Robin (James) Young, Bruce (Curlie) Young, and Robert Young; grandchildren, Bruce Young Jr., Vincent Young, Iesha Young, Spencer Young, Dennis Craig Jr., Shaqualla Cartwright, Pam Hawkins, Joshua Hawkins, Natasha Hawkins, and Ciara Abrams; and sisters, Etter Ruth Fields, Etta Dean Nichols, and Ruby Morris. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Cartwright; her daughter, Joyce Cartwright; her granddaughter, Kristen Craig-Cook; and her parents. Private services will be held at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 followed by a private burial at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
