Edward Alan Peters, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on October 2, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Edward T. and Louise A. (Handler) Peters. Edward proudly served his country in the US Army from 1970-1972 while stationed in Germany. After several job relocations he returned to Indiana settling on the lake in Kendallville, recently returning to Fort Wayne.

On August 18, 1973 Ed married the love of his life, Marilyn R. (Fortman) Peters at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Ft. Wayne. They shared 53 happy years, creating a lasting legacy through their daughters and grandchildren.

Ed’s sense of humor and quick wit were apparent whenever he made a joke or pun, which he did often. He loved to entertain and make those around him laugh. He always had a story to tell, or a game to play, and those who knew him will miss the fun he always created around him.

Ed had a successful career in Human Resources, ultimately retiring from Bunge North America (Decatur, Indiana). He was known for his compassion and dedication to his coworkers and the people he managed. He earned respect in the workplace and appreciation from those who knew him.

Fishing and bowhunting were among Ed’s greatest passions. He especially treasured sharing his love of fishing with his grandchildren, family and friends. His outdoor adventures included deer hunting, bear hunting in Canada, and moose hunting in Newfoundland. His appreciation for nature also led him to volunteer with ACRES Land Trust, maintaining trails for others to enjoy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, daughters, Laura (Alex) Valle and Amy (Dan) Koepke, eight grandchildren: Emilia, Ben (Sarah), Lucas, Christian, Eva, Catherine, Colin and Cameron and his two sisters, Susan Dunn and Cathy Bierbaum.

In honor of Edward’s life, there will be a public visitation at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, with a Rosary preceding it at 1:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 228 N. Main St., Avilla, IN at 11:30 AM, with an hour prior visitation. Burial will follow the services at Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne 3:00 PM.
