Emma
Momper
July 18, 1932 – November 12, 2025
Emma A. Momper, 93, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Born on July 18, 1932, in Lincolnville, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Dvorak) Broz. She married James Momper in Woodland, CA on December 21, 1966, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2017, after 50 years of marriage.
Emma dedicated over 45 years to teaching, primarily in Catholic schools, where she was known for her extraordinary gift of helping children learn to read. A fellow nun once said that "She could teach a rock to read". Her passion for teaching was matched by her deep devotion to the Blessed Mother.
She was a former member of the World Apostolate of Fatima (formerly known as the Blue Army), the Widows of Prayer, and participated faithfully in the Latin Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church until recent years. Emma found joy in her faith, her family, and her love of reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Bovie of Leo; her son, Anthony "Tony" Momper of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Daniel Bovie of Fort Wayne and Abigail Bovie of Leo; brother-in-law, John (Dolores) Momper of New Haven; sister-in-law, Phyllis Martin of Coldwater MI, and many cherished nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Emma was also preceded in death by her siblings, George Broz, James Broz, Edward Broz, Jr., Mary Jo Kayton and Frank Broz, and her son-in-law, Jerry Bovie.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd. with visitation from 9:30-10:30am in the church. Visitation is also on Tuesday from 4-8pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 3:30pm. Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. The family's preferred memorials are Masses for James & Emma, or to the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocesan Chapter of the World Apostolate of Fatima.
