Obituary

Gary L. Davis, 74 of Fremont, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 at home with his wife and children. Gary was born, February 5, 1950 in Winchester.

At a young age Gary's family frequented the 4H campground at Pokagon and later relocated to Crooked Lake in Angola, where he developed his love for the water. Years later he moved to the Fort Wayne area where he attended New Haven high school and met the love of his life, Kathy. He graduated High School in 1969 and then was accepted into Tri-State University. Gary began his engineering internship with Dana as a production operator in 1971. He married Kathy in 1971.

Gary earned his bachelor's degree from Tri-state in 1973, then achieved his Professional Engineering degree from the state of Indiana in 1978 and his Masters of Engineering degree from Purdue University in 1981.

Gary and Kathy later moved to a small farm house in Yoder, IN. Gary and Kathy frequented Steuben county lakes with their young family and were lucky enough to purchase a small cottage on Spring Bank in 1984. Gary along with his family worked to make this cottage a home, which they enjoyed for 34 years. Gary retired after 47 years of service to Dana, in 2019.

Their love for Lake George pushed Gary and Kathy to purchase property on Kopekanee and construct their retirement home, where they are residing today. Gary has dedicated his retirement years to serving on the Lake George Conservancy Board, the Lake George Sewer Board, Beach Director, Volunteer with Harvest Food Bank and an active member of St. Anthony's Parish.

Gary is survived by his wife Kathy of 53 years of marriage, his children Jessica (David) Stachelski, Jarret (Elizabeth) Davis and Ryan Davis. Gary has 7 grandchildren.

The world is a better place because of Gary's contributions. He spent his life sharing his talents, knowledge, and labor with others; very likely the person you've been seeing cleaning roadside trash around Lake George was Gary. He was a loving, caring, giving, dependable, proud husband, father, and grandfather. Gary enjoyed working on his yard and flower gardens and taking out his boat. He strived to ensure the betterment of Lake George
