Obituary

Gary Lee Royer, 74, of Fort Wayne, IN died on November 26th surrounded by his family after a brave fight with cancer.

Son of musicians Ray and Delores, Gary studied Spanish and philosophy at Ball State University. He was a lounge singer in Oregon before earning his JD at California Western School of Law. He spent 30 years as the managing attorney of UAW Legal Services in Fort Wayne.

Gary married Kay Shank in 1985 and raised two sons. He thoroughly enjoyed life with his family through Tae Kwon Do, theatre, choir, hikes, travel, home improvement, and more. He stood by Kay unwaveringly through her own long battle with breast cancer ending in 2014.

Gary married Donna Boeglin in 2020, bringing together their two families for a full life of friendship, adventure, singing, and laughter.

He was a gifted guitarist, singer, and songwriter, recording original songs and occasionally performing locally. He enjoyed Komet hockey, short-track racing, doing crosswords (in pen), and classic movies and mysteries. He also loved the animals in his life, but only while no one was looking.

Gary was dedicated to enriching other people's lives, both through his work helping people with legal proceedings, wills, adoptions, and more, and through his dedication to his friends and family. He often surprised loved ones with thoughtful and offbeat gifts, inventive projects, and clever jokes.

He's survived by his son Cale (Jenna) and grandson Wells, his son Carson (Nicci), his wife Donna and her children Laura (Dave), Michael and grandson Robbie, and his brother Roger (Madonna) and his children Rachel and Zach. He was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife Kay, and his brother Frank.

Please join the family for a celebration of Gary's life at the Chateau on Broadway, 2441 Broadway, Fort Wayne, IN 46807 between 4 - 7pm on Thursday, December 5th. Dress Gary-casual.
