George M.
Dykhuizen
Jun 4, 1942 — May 10, 2026
George M. Dykhuizen, age 83 years, passed away on May 10, 2026. George was born June 4, 1942 in Fort Wayne, IN, the first born of six children to H.M. Dykhuizen and Annabelle (Butz) Dykhuizen.
George is a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1964 graduate of Purdue University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. At Purdue, George was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Following Purdue, George earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1966.
While at Purdue, George met Sandra (Sandy) Shook from Auburn, IN, and they dated throughout their college days. They married and are the parents of three children: Craig, Leslie (John), and Scott; and grandparents to two grandsons, Ryan and Jason.
George often boasted about the number of moves he had made during his career in the metals industry. Working for Alcoa, Chase Brass and Copper Company, and Extruded Metals, kept his family on move from the Boston/Cambridge, MA, to Rocky River/Cleveland, OH, to the Chicago suburbs, to Pittsburgh, PA, to Lausanne, Switzerland, back to Pittsburgh, to Hudson, OH, to Bryan, OH, and finally Grand Rapids, MI. In retirement he and Sandy, split their time between to Estero, FL, and Spencerville, IN, where they are back to their roots in Indiana.
Throughout his life, George was an avid reader and loved solving diabolical sudoku. He also enjoyed skiing with friends and family. His skiing adventures took him to Switzerland, the Laurentians, Deer Valley, Jackson Hole, and many trips to Boyne Mountain and The Highlands with the good friends from Bryan, OH. And we can't forget Colorado (Steamboat Springs and Vail) as it was the spot for spring break skiing during the kid's high school and college years.
During his career George had a tremendous work ethic. He was dedicated not only to the job but to his employees through leadership and mentoring. George proudly served the Copper and Brass Association as a Member of the Board of Directors from 1994-2007, and was the Chairman of the Board from 2004-2007 when he retired from Extruded Metals.
In his life and retirement George enjoyed making new friends and playing golf at Pelican Sound and Egypt Valley where he and Perry FINALLY won the Member Member after 23 years!! He also enjoyed family time, traveling with Sandy, his trip to Ireland with Craig, family destination Christmases, a family trip to Maine, and dabbling in watercolor. He always looked forward to romping around in the woods at Wayne's World and singing on his coffee runs with Kim. As you know, George also loved to cook, however, he was known for dirtying every dish in the kitchen and would always ask "Who's been using my knives?!!?"
George is survived by his wife, two children and two grandsons, two sisters, Judith and Carol, and two brothers, Richard and Dennis. He is proceeded in death by his brother John, his parents, and his son, Craig.
Services for George will take place on Friday, May 29,2026 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748. It is a blessing that George is at peace and free of the frustrations of the Alzheimer's/Dementia that robbed him of so much.
