George W. Kessen, 83, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday April 14, 2026, at Englewood Health & Rehabilitation. George was born in Fort Wayne on December 17, 1942, the son of the (late) John H. and Mildred (Winbaugh) Kessen. George graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of ’60 and continued his studies to earn his degree. He served his country with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. George was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was devout in his faith. He enjoyed the years he spent at Sylvan Lake and in Florida, and became an ardent fan of fast boats. George was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Indianapolis Colts. Always an active person, he loved playing racquetball. He retired after a long career in Professional Staffing & Recruiting. George is survived by his brother, John J. (Cheri) Kessen and sister-in-law, Joanne Kessen. He is also survived by his niece, Eileen (Kenny) Heinze of Fort Wayne; nephews, Jeff (Emily) Kessen of Avon Lake, OH, Mark (Kelly) Kessen of Elkhart, Doug (Michelle) Kessen of Mattawan, MI, Jon (Mary Beth) Kessen of Henrico, VA, and Steve (Jen) Kessen of Avon, OH. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles J. Kessen and Thomas C. Kessen.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday, May 8, 2026 in St. Jude Catholic Church, 2155 Randallia Dr., Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation from 9:30-10:30am in the church. Burial will take place in Catholic Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. Arrangements are through Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. The family’s preferred memorials are Masses, or donations to Humane Fort Wayne, online at https://humanefw.org/donate, or by mail to 901 Leesburg Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46808; or to The Wounded Warrior Project, online at https://woundedwarriorproject.org, or by mail to 207 W.
