Georgina Raquel
Balestra
January 30, 1928 – December 30, 2022
Georgina Raquel Balestra passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 30, 2022.
Born January 30, 1928, in Cuba she spent her youth in Juan Díaz, Sagua de Tánamo, her family's large rural property devoted to cultivating coffee and sugar, where she loved growing up. Georgina attended college in North Carolina, then returned to Havana, Cuba where she met the love of her life, Claude Balestra, of Paris, France. Married in 1953, they had three children. In 1959 fled their home due to the revolution. Georgina lovingly raised her children while living in 12 countries, due to Claude's international career. She embraced many cultures and spoke 4 languages, but always stayed faithful to her Cuban heritage. She believed in always seeing goodness in people. Georgina is special to many. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She gave all of herself to everyone she met. She is survived by her children Claude, Melba, and Liliane, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Emma Vignau, Miami, Fl. As our matriarch, Georgina, requested, "1 2 3, cha-cha-cha" there will be no funeral memorial. A private family celebration will occur at a later date. In her honor and in lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities of Fort Wayne, IN - Immigration Services are appreciated. Arrangements by Divine Mercy Funeral Home 3500 Lake Ave Fort Wayne, IN
