Harold D. Bauer, Sr.,87, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at Saint Anne Home & Retirement Community in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne, June 22, 1937, to the late Ovid and Beulah (Miller) Bauer. He graduated from Eel-River-Perry High School in 1956 and served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. Harold married the love of his life Marjorie Abbott, on May 21, 1960, they shared 56 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 8, 2016. He graduated Indiana Barber College in 1964 and was the former owner of Bauer's Barber Shop in Northcrest. He went on to work at International Harvester, North American Van Lines and Craftline Printing. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, especially the friend-fishing trip up north. He also enjoyed golfing, Euchre card club and the many years on a bowling league. He loved to camp and spend time at the lake with his family. He always had a smile on his face and the best belly laugh. He never knew a stranger, and everyone loved him. He always had a joke for you or a quick-witted line. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Papa, who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He could be found on the floor playing with the kids, being silly and later cheering them on at sporting events. He spent his last 7 years at Saint Annes where everyone loved him and was affectionately known as "grandpa" to all. His children would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Saint Annes for taking such amazing care of him and for loving him. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, K of C Council 451, American Legion Post 82. Survivors include son, Harold "Hal" (Candy) Bauer, Jr. of Leo; daughter, Marla (Joe) Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; daughter, Kara (Ron) Straessle of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Bauer (Bev Fairchild), Paul (Sandy) Bauer and sisters Evelyn Gilliam, Gertrude Meyer, Agnes (Al) Huddleston. He was preceded by brothers, John, Donald, and Clarence" Joe" Bauer. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
