J-Richard Horner, 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on March 8, 2023 at home with his family by his side. J-Richard was born on November 9, 1942, to Joseph and Mary Horner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Rutgers University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army Artillery Branch from 1965 through 1967 and saw combat in the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
J-Richard met Susan E. Clapp in 1967 and were married on January 18,1969. J-Richard and Susan had 6 children, Douglas Richard Horner (Kim), Andrew Joseph Horner (Kari), Jennifer Susan Horner Smedberg (Bryan), Theresa Elizabeth Horner Brown (Stan), David Arthur Horner and Emily Tiffany Joy. J-Richard was a loving father and grandfather with fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was active in the Catholic church and Boy Scouts when his children were young.
J-Richard was predeceased by Joseph R. Horner (Father) Mary T. Horner (Mother) and James T. Horner (Brother). Surviving are sisters Patricia Horner Finkbiner (Paul), Mary Joan Horner Nuckowski (Ray), Virginia Horner Wacker, Linda Horner Shuster (Paul), Judith Horner Heap (Don) and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm, Monday, March 20, 2023 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana.
