Obituary

James A. "Jay" Allgeier, age 85, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice Home.  Born on March 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Catherine (Welch) Allgeier and stepson of the late Mary Allgeier Bishop and Leon Bishop. Jay graduated from Central Catholic High School, class of 1958. On January 13, 1962, he married the love of his life, Waneta (Gigli). They spent 63 wonderful years together, building their life and watching their family grow. Jay worked in management for Magnavox and Raytheon for 43 years until his retirement in 2002.

When not working, Jay enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing euchre with friends, and travelling to Florida. His biggest enjoyment came from watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events.  Jay was consistently in the stands for every event, cheering them on as their number one fan. Family always came first for him, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Faith was also important to Jay, and he was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Waneta V. Allgeier; sons, Jim (Terri) Allgeier, John (Elaine) Allgeier, and daughter, Anne (Kevin) Adams; grandchildren, Margaret (Drew) Westrick, Sally Allgeier, Patrick Allgeier, Nicholas Adams, Gregory Adams, and Jack Allgeier; great-grandchildren, JP Westrick and Rory Westrick; sister-in-law, Geraldine Allgeier; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jay was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Allgeier; and his stepparents.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 with visitation one hour prior.  Visitation will also be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805 with a Rosary recited at 3:30 p.m.
