James Frederick Martin, 82, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, peacefully, at home. He was a lifelong resident of New Haven, IN. Jim was born on April 17,1942 to Frederick Martin and Rosene (Vondran) Martin.
Jim was a member of the New Haven High School Class of 1960 and attended 1 year of College at Indiana Tech. He then went on to serve his country in the US Army, serving in Germany. After an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he worked as an electrician at B.F Goodrich for almost 40 years.
Jim married the Love of his life, Joyce (Harkenrider) Martin on Sept 4, 1965.
Jim was an active member of St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, where he volunteered for funeral dinners and was a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound. Jim was also a 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the VFW and American Legion Post. He also volunteered at the Cancer Society and at Parkview, talking to cancer patients during treatments. Jim also volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross and tutored at Village Woods Elementary School and was a Foster Parent for 13 years.
Jim is survived by his wife Joyce Martin, children, Jeffrey (Tammy Lawrence) Martin, Diana Lantz, Debora (Darren) Herschberger, Joseph (Linda) Martin and Dawn (Scott) Phillips, 15 grandchildren and sisters Caroline (Jim) Patrick, Patricia Copsey and Cynthia Chavarria.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Rosene Martin.
There will be a visitation held from 1pm – 3pm and 4pm – 7pm on August 6, 2024, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. A Funeral Mass will take place on August 7, 2024, at 11:00am with visitation 1 hour before at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, 15535 Lincoln Hwy., New Haven, IN 46774. Burial will follow at St. Louis Besancon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Louis Catholic Church for Masses in Jim's name, the St. Louis Cemetery Fund, and the St Vincent DePaul Society.
