James R.
Morken
October 7, 1953 – May 21, 2025
James Robert Morken, age 71 of Fremont, Indiana, passed away on May 21, 2025. Born on October 7, 1953 in Fort Wayne.
Jim graduated from Northside High School in 1971 and joined the US Navy. He trained in San Diego and was deployed as a radioman on the USS Decatur at the end of the Vietnam war. He returned to the US and attended Indiana University and finished his degree at ITT tech in Fort Wayne in 1982 as an electronic engineering specialist. He moved to Indianapolis and worked for RCA and then GM, and eventually moved to Kokomo to work for Delco/Delphi. Jim recently retired from BorgWarner. He had a long career and several patents in the development of GM's first fully electric automobile.
Jim is survived by his mother Phyllis Morken, his daughter, Judith Anne Dasilva and his three grandchildren, Eleanora, Evalyn and Ezekiel. Jim grew up with 10 siblings: Linda, Mary, Mike, Joe, Julie, Rosie, Anna, Chris, Lisa and Sara. Also surviving are his aunts, Florence Seculoff, Helen Seculoff (OSF), Marjorie Morken, Mary Jane, and Uncle Don Dimberio. He was blessed with many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was never happier than hanging out at the lake with his family and friends, and always had a cold beer ready for anyone who dropped by. He loved the lake life and loved spending time with his grandkids sharing his joy of fishing and boating. He had a passion for cars. He could fix anything. He enjoyed hunting and being in the woods. He always reminisced about the great memories he had building his home with father. He was a loyal son, brother, friend, father and grandfather. He was unapologetically himself and his energy and strong personality will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
