Jeanne G.
Rooney
January 7, 1931 – January 8, 2026
Jeanne G. Rooney, 95, of Fort Wayne IN, peacefully ended her earthly journey surrounded by her family's love on January 8, 2026. Born January 7, 1931, in Berlin NH, the third of nine children and eldest daughter, to Joseph and Germaine (Paquet) Brodeur. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Berlin NH. Jeanne married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, James W. Rooney, on July 16, 1949, and together welcomed a beautiful family of five children.
After years of supporting her husband's insurance business, homemaking and working as a telephone operator, in 1971, Jim and Jeanne moved to Fort Wayne IN. Jeanne retired as a clerk from the Allen County Welfare Department. After retirement and a concern for the poor, she volunteered at Matthew 25 for over a decade. Jeanne was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and felt privileged to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, a member of Wings II, and helped serve funeral meals. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing card games, and working a good jigsaw puzzle.
Jeanne will be remembered for her homemade pizza, meat pies, cookies, bread, and many meals for her friends and family. She was proud to provide many baby blankets to bless the patients of Riley Children's Hospital and the Women's Care Center. Jeanne gracefully shared love with everyone she encountered, will be remembered for her hospitality and cheerful smile, and will be very deeply missed.
Jeanne's sincerest passion was her family and lovingly welcomed every new baby to it. She and Jim are responsible for many family memories, were present at their grandkid's events, and were committed to travel "Out East" to visit family and friends over the years. They instilled the value of family time, unconditional love, and friendships to their children and grandchildren.
Jeanne is survived by her children; Steven (Martha) Rooney, Cathy (Jerry) Hosier, Carol (Art) Bunt, and James (Lisa) Rooney II; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ella Richard and Madeleine Marois; brother, Albert (Pauline) Brodeur; sister-in-laws, Eileen Rooney, Adela Rooney, and Phyllis Morrissette; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
