Obituary

James E. Alwine Sr., 88, died Friday February 13, 2026, at St. Anne Home and Retirement Community.  Jim was born February 28, 1937, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late Harry and Anna (Hepschmidt) Alwine. He served his country proudly in the US Navy.  On June 30, 1962, Jim married the love of his life Cecilia "Celie" (Weaver) Alwine; she preceded him in death on October 22, 2012 after 50 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was also preceded by grandsons Sam Hively and Dylan Alwine, and a sister, Roseann Cox.

Survivors include his son, James E. "Jay" (Jennifer) Alwine Jr.  of Fort Myers, Florida, his daughters, Michelle (John) Federspiel and Pam (Brad) Hively both of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with one more "on the way".

Jim retired in 2000 as Service & Purchasing Manager for Imaging Office Systems after 39 years with the company.  He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as past Grand Knight and past Navigator.  He was active in his community, volunteering at Parkview Hospital and the Community Harvest Food Bank.  During his retirement he worked at Parkview as a shuttle bus driver and worked as an usher at the Coliseum.  He also stayed busy with his Christmas tree farm The Pines of Leo.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Thursday February 19, 2026 in Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Road, with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Visitation is also from 5-8pm Wednesday at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave with the Rosary at 430pm. The family's preferred memorial is Gibault Children's Services, online at www.gibault.org, or by mail to 6401 S. US Hwy 41, Terre Haute, IN  47802.
