Joan M. (Brown) Huber, age 88, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. Joan was 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School and had worked for Do It Best Hardware retiring 2008 with sixteen years of service. She was a devoted member of St. John Catholic Church in New Haven and was a member and past officer of the Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed socializing, eating out, and playing cards with her Red Hat group. Joan lived her life to the fullest celebrating many accomplishments and for many years she defied all convention as she continued to love and live life, while gracefully fighting breast cancer and its complications. Her strength, courage and inner peace are a lasting memorial of her own creation. She will always be remembered and celebrated for her determination, hospitality and generosity and her spirit will endure as an uplifting inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Joan M. Huber was born on March 24, 1937, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Charles and Jenette (Masbaum) Brown. She married Richard Huber on November 24, 1960, and he preceded her in death in 2006.
Survivors include one son, Richard Huber, Jr. of Oregon; two daughters, Doreen Pickette, of Texas and Angie (Chris) Cheviron- Josey, of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Madison, Alexis, Tristan, Landon Colton and Ethan; four great grandchildren, Camden, Hadley, Carson and Brooks; and two sisters, Sharon (John) Matese and Mary (Joe) Weldy. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Brown, Jr. and Robert Brown.
Joan graciously gifted her body to the Indiana School of Medicine Department of Anatomy. A memorial Holy Mass will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 12:00 noon at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church in New Haven, Indiana, with Fr. Robert Garrow officiating. Recitation of the Holy Rosary we be at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be at a later date in St. John Catholic Cemetery, New Haven.
Memorials are requested for Holy Masses to be offered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers Street, New Haven.
