Obituary

John Stephen Davis, 78, of Fort Wayne, died September 3, 2025. He was born in Bluffton on May 4, 1947, the son of the late John R. "Jack" Davis and Judith (Daniels) Davis. John grew up in Pennville, Indiana where he and his siblings, Jim & Brenda, lived right across from the high school. John was active in basketball, drums and student council. He and his brother had their own ponies to raise, train, and ride, which later led him to riding motorcycles.

In John's early adult years, he was promoted from driver, to supervisor over the warehouse and the drivers at Inland Chemical. He then became the operations manager at Van Water's & Rogers which later became Univar. He retired with over 45 years in the chemical industry.

John had many hobbies and outdoor recreations that he loved; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he  spent many years on Lake Erie in the summer at his boataminium.  His boat is named P.B.R. "MAN"-Most appropriate for him.

John was a talented drummer and blew his grandkids away when he picked up drumsticks. He loved playing pool and especially Texas Hold 'em. He played in, and organized, many card tournaments.

John was a firm believer in living life to the fullest and doing what you enjoy.

He made a "mean" ham salad and liked sharing it with the family at gatherings. He was a friend to the Amish community, driving them to appointments and helping where he could.

John was a guy that called most everyone a friend. He loved his family and never hung up the phone without saying, "I love you!"  He and his wife Mary spent over 40 years together in love and adventures.  John had another faithful companion he took everywhere - his husky, Harley.

He spent his last weekend on earth in a perch fishing tournament and trolling around in his boat.

John is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Jeff) Barton and Shannon (Tad Harris) Ball, both of Columbia City, Tammy (Obie) Hickenbottom of Fort Wayne; daughter-in-law, Joni Davis of Columbia City; stepdaughters, Sheryl Imbody of New Haven and Christina (Doug) Sorg of Fort Wayne; brother, Jim Davis of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife Mary L. Davis; son, Darren Davis and sister, Brenda Newcomer. John was also preceded by his son-in-law, Jason Ball and his grandson, Bronson Ball, in an excavating accident 5 years ago in Columbia City.

He will be dearly loved and missed by his family & friends. May he rest in peace.
