John "Jack"
Lorenc
October 18, 1936 – April 12, 2025
John Andrew "Jack" Lorenc passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on April 12, 2025. He was 88 years old.
Jack was born on October 18, 1936, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to Andrew and Mary Lorenc. After graduating from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He went on to earn a degree in Physics from the College of Steubenville (now Franciscan University) in 1962.
In 1963, Jack married his college sweetheart, Mary Rose Leonard. Together, they shared a beautiful life and raised three children: Timothy (Christina) Lorenc, Thomas (Lisa) Lorenc, and Kristen (Mike) Gandolfo. Jack's legacy lives on in his nine beloved grandchildren: Isabella, Gianna, Elijah, Sam, Levi, Frankie, Andie, Aaron, and Ethan.
A two-time cancer survivor, Jack demonstrated remarkable resilience and strength throughout his life.
Throughout his career, Jack worked at several institutions, including the Melon Research Institute in Pittsburgh, Owens Corning in Toledo, Magnavox in Fort Wayne, and Thomson Consumer Electronics in Marion. He was respected for his intelligence, dedication, and quiet professionalism.
Jack had many passions that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He was an avid photographer, artist, archer, reader, and chess enthusiast. However, his greatest joy came from woodturning-a craft he pursued with both skill and heart. Classically trained at the Bahr/Lipp School, Jack mastered the art, creating pieces that were as beautiful as they were meaningful. Many friends and loved ones were fortunate to receive one of his exquisitely hand-turned wooden pens, each a reflection of his craftsmanship and generosity.
Above all, Jack was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren. He found joy in their achievements and happiness in their company.
Survived by his sister, Susan Lorenc, Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Korzi and Pearl Trovato; and his brother, Thomas Lorenc.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to St. Charles Church & School.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
