Karen Marie Figel, 88, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 16, 1936, in Cogswell, ND, to Elmer and Beatrice Oxley.

She married Daniel Figel, the love of her life, on October 19, 1957. Together, they had five children, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Karen had an extensive career as a bookkeeper for Mutual of Omaha and the Allen County Auditor's Office and passionately and proudly served as Matron of the Allen County Jail. Karen was selfless, putting her family and friends first. Truly, she nurtured our souls with food, kindness, mercy, and endless acts of labor and love.

Karen is survived by her devoted husband Dan, children Laurie (Doug) Specht, Marcy (Mark) Watts, Mark (Carlo D'Amore) Figel, Cynthia (Howard) Mizuki, and daughter-in-law Ellen Figel. Karen was preceded in death by their precious son Tom and numerous family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46825 on Wednesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. with calling one hour before. Visitation is also on Tuesday, July 30, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. (rosary recited at 3:30) and 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort. Wayne.
