Kathleen (O'Neil) Herald, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

She was born on Feb 9, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late David and Florence (Monroe) O'Neil.

Katie graduated from Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University. Following graduation, she taught elementary education at St. Nickolas School in Youngstown.

In 1965 she married "Irish" Mike Herald and then moved her family to Fort Wayne in 1972.

Katie had as many friends as she had freckles. Her wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed, especially by her children and grandchildren, who she held very close to her heart.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Michele) Herald, Scott (Holly) Herald, Bridget (Brock) Merck, Kara (Chuck) Pastor, and Anne (Mick) Steele; 15 grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur O'Neil.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Michael Herald; a son, Neil Herald; and siblings, Rosemary, Susan, Mary, and David.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
