Larry L. Martin, 88, died Tuesday August 27 at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation. Larry was born on September 1, 1935 near Huntertown in Eel River Township, the son of (the late) Delphis J. "Bump" and Martha A. (Sloffer) Martin. He married Beverly R. Martin on August 29, 1976; she survives after 46 years of marriage, along with 5 generations of family; children, Michael (Julie) Martin of St. James City FL, Terry (Marjorie) Martin of Trenary MI, Carol King and Debbie (Leon) Ward, both of The Villages FL, and Ray Martin of Wetmore MI, Tim (Rhonda) Scott of Huntertown, Susan (Allen) Bonar of Butler, Cindy (Dexter) Lutter of LaOtto and Michele (Greg) Rorick of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren, Jennifer, Sara, Fay Ann, Farrel, Melissa, Larry Joe, Eric, Mitchell, Sarah "Darda", Ryan, Renee, Kelly, Jamie, Becky, Sterling, Jacob and Patrick; 28 great-grandchildren, Riley, Carter, Ava, Curtis, Elizabeth, Natalia, Kalob, Konner, Kelsie, Kylee, Jesselyn, Wrigley, Jasper, Leah, Georgia, Tyler, Trinity, Orion, Dominic, Kellan, Easton, Kennedy, Kahne, Hunter, Colt, Berkley, Taylor and Nick; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Amelia, Wesley, Cole and Levi. Larry is also survived by his sister, Beth (Dave) Amick of Fort Wayne.
In addition to his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by his brother, James "Jim" Martin and his grandson, Matthew "Matt" Sutton.
Larry operated a family farm and was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish; he drove a school bus for Northwest Allen Co. Schools for 25 years and enjoyed interacting with all of the kids over the years. He was an avid fan of IU Basketball and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and following NASCAR. He was an accomplished amateur photographer with beautiful images taken from Alaska to Florida to Maine. Larry was devoted to his family & friends; he loved being around kids and babies, and caring for his dogs (which were all named after country music singers). He was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, who will be dearly missed.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Monday September 9, 2024 in St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd. with visitation from 9:30-10:30 in the church. Visitation is also on Sunday from 1-6pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with the Rosary at 5:30pm. The family's preferred memorials are Masses, or to Anew Hospice, 7785 W.
