Loretta “Jean”
Richter
March 8, 1931 – October 17, 2023
Loretta "Jean" Richter, 92, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Chateau Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Born on March 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and AnnMarie (Davis) Borden. Jean grew up in Kendallville, IN and was a graduate of Kendallville High School. On November 12, 1951, she married the love of her life, Maynard Richter, whom she met by chance at a drive-in. Together, they built a life in Fort Wayne and watched their family grow. Jean worked as a secretary for Central Soya for over 20 years until she retired in 1993. She also worked as a proofreader for the Kendallville newspaper. When not working, Jean enjoyed the time she spent living in New Smyrna Beach, Florida with her husband. She liked spending time on the beach and visiting with her neighbors in their retirement community. Jean was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group for over 30 years. She also loved to sing in the choir at St. Charles Borromeo and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Churches. Above all else, Jean loved her family, and especially loved being a grandmother to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured her family's visits to her in Florida. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 72 years, Maynard Richter; children, Susan (James) Fox, Margaret "Peg" (David) Murray, Mark (Viviana) Richter, James "Jim" (Janet) Richter, Lisa (Gary) Wilson, and Linda (John) Rezendes; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her son, Gregory (Debra) Richter and infant son, William Richter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be written to Elara Caring Hospice and Chateau Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Jean's name.
