Obituary

Margaret J. Schenkel, 75, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, September 25th, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Margaret was born in Salzburg, Austria on April 30th, 1948, to the late Mathias and Julianna (Frei) Fink.

She was an alumnus of Central Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1966.

She married her high school sweetheart, Steven C. Schenkel, on August 19th, 1967.

During their 56 years of marriage, they had 3 Children, Laurie A. Schenkel Montalvo (Jose Montalvo), Matthew C. Schenkel, and Angela D. Errington.

Their family grew to include 3 grandchildren, Sydnie King (Dustin), Isabella Errington, and Arianna Errington. As well as a great grandson Wilder King.

Margaret's happy place was her home. Her passions and hobbies included reading, decorating, crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite movies.

At the "round table", you would always find her, deep in thought, sharing her wisdom and strength to those who needed it most, laughing and smiling at those who gathered with her.

Margaret was deeply devoted to and valued above all else her family. She had a truly special relationship with each person in her life. Her capacity to truly see any person was unparalleled, as well as to make any friend of the family feel welcome, warm, and as important as those who were in her lineage. No one was ever lost in the crowd. She and Steven both were/are fondly referred to by many friends and even family as "mom and dad".

She was a caregiver of many who needed it most over her life, helping them to the next phase with grace, strength, and dignity.

She is now reunited with her son Matthew, who preceded her in death.

Her legacy will live in the hearts of her husband and the children/grandchildren they shared, sister Eleanore Campbell (Steven), many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

A memorial calling will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a time of remembrance starting at 6 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cancer Services of Northeastern Indiana.
