Margarita passed away surrounded by love after losing her battle with Lupus. Margarita was born in Stockbridge Michigan to migrant worker parents Guillermo and Maria E Velasquez from Laredo Texas. Margarita was a prominent figure in the community actively fighting for migrant farm worker rights as a teenager, serving as a teacher’s aide and one of the founders of Title one program as a young adult.

Margarita was an undeniable figure in the M.A.Y.A/Club Unified program lovingly being dubbed la grandma for her caring demeanor, amazing advice and deep faith whose legacy will proceed her for generations to come.

Proceeded in death are both parents, siblings Otilia and Mary Lou, nieces Annie and Mary Ellen.

Surviving are her siblings Guillermo Jr, Santiago, Crispin Velasquez. Her husband of 58 yrs, Rodolfo A. Soto, Children: Maria (Gilberto Sr. [Husband] Gilberto Jr, & Chrystal (wife) (Bianca, Hilaria, Anjelita), Rodolfo Jr. (Jennifer[wife] Josiah, Immanuel, and Jazmine), Anjelica (Nicolas & Micaillela), Salvador (Jackie[wife] Isabella, Olivia, Ava), Arianna (Güera) Jesus Soto, Joseph Nelson (Deanna [wife] Ashley, Victoria, Kiara, Joey) Juan Flores (Brandon & Destiny), Antonio Flores.

She will be missed and remembered for her storytelling, cooking and love for music and dance. Until we meet again.

Services for Margarita will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN. with a time of visitation from 4-6:00pm and a Memorial Service at 6:00pm.
