Marjorie F. Harvey, 93, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday April 1, 2025, at Georgetowne Place. Marge was born in Fort Wayne on January 15, 1932, the daughter of (the late) Wilbert and Margarita (Federspiel) Gunkel. After completing elementary school at St Hyacinth, she graduated from Central Catholic High School in the Class of '49 with perfect attendance. Marge became a registered nurse from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1952 and practiced pediatric nursing. She married Clement Lothamer on July 25, 1953, and they had 9 children together. After his tragic death on January 1, 1973, Marge married James F. Harvey on May 21, 1974.
She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she and her husband revived and grew the St. Vincent DePaul Society where she helped the needy for over 30 years. While serving as a Vincentian officer for most of those years, she was honored with the Top Hat Award. Her many interests and hobbies include sewing, knitting, cooking and shopping for her large family. She was an expert at euchre and pinochle and continued a monthly pinochle club for over 70 years with "the girls" from high school.
She had a special bond with each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Spending time at Barbee Lake was one of her favorite ways of being with close and extended family.
Her devoted husband, Jim, survives along with her children, Barbara (Kent) Brown of Fort Wayne, Lois (Steve) Ambrosini of Concord NC, Daniel (Patricia) Lothamer of Wolcottville, David (Linda) Lothamer of Fort Wayne, Mark (Susan) Lothamer of Leesburg, Thomas (Lillian) Lothamer of Fort Wayne, Theresa (Gene) Crary of Pierceton, Diane (Chris) Partee of Fort Wayne and Matthew (Jennifer) Lothamer of Fort Wayne; step-children, Angela (John) Rupp of Cedar Lake and Patricia (Tim) Powers of Atlanta GA; sister-in-law, Bernice Gunkel of Frisco TX; 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her first husband, Marge was also preceded in death by her brothers, Norman Gunkel, Marvin Gunkel, and Ronald Gunkel, and her sister, Marilyn DeGrandchamp.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Wednesday April 9, 2025, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 1500 W. State Blvd. Visitation is Tuesday from 4-8pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., with the Rosary at 3:30pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
