December 12, 1924 – May 5, 2025
Marilyn Ann Vachon, age 100, passed away on May 5, 2025, at St. Anne's Rehab facility. She was born on 12-12-1924 to Robert J. Vachon, Sr. and Maude (Shaffer) Vachon in Fort Wayne, IN. After graduating from North Side High School in 1942 she had a 45-year career at Lincoln National Corp. She was the first woman promoted to the position of assistant vice president of Lincoln National Life and corporate secretary of Lincoln National Corp and its subsidiaries. She also served as assistant treasurer of both companies. She retired in 1987.
Marilyn was an avid bridge player and belonged to several groups in Florida and Indiana.
She enjoyed traveling, including several trips to Europe and wintering in Sebring, Florida for 30 years. She had a passion for art and enjoyed taking classes at the local college in Florida. She continued to hone her skills while summering at the family cottage on Crooked Lake. For 25 years she was a reader for Audio Reading Service for the blind on public radio.
Marilyn was a lifelong member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Rosary Sodality and helped with many social functions at the church.
Marilyn is survived by a brother, Richard N. Vachon. She has 7 nieces and nephews: Denise (Harry) Kaufman, Doug (Dwana) Vachon, Matt (Brenda) Vachon, Kirk (Mary) Vachon, Neil (Vicki) Vachon, Lisa (Matt) Crates, Jerry (Alejandra) Vachon; 19 great nieces; and nephews and 17 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert J Vachon, Jr. and his wife Lois and sister-in-law Donna Vachon. She was also blessed to have many thoughtful and caring friends in Fort Wayne and Crooked Lake, Indiana and Sebring Florida.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Catholic Cemetery, Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel , 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, Fort Wayne with a Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. Burial at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials can be written to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church or Habitat for Humanity in Marilyn's name. Condolences can be left at www.divinemercyfuneralhome.com for the family.
