Marion "Bud" Allgood, 93, of Fort Wayne and formerly of New Haven, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Adams Heritage in Monroeville. Born in Cannelton on September 24, 1932, Bud was the son of (the late) Griffin and Thelma (Bryant) Allgood.
Bud attended New Haven High School before leaving to marry the love of his life, Bessie Wilson, on October 1, 1950. Together, they built a life centered on love, devotion, and family, sharing more than seventy-five wonderful years of marriage. Their journey was filled with treasured memories and countless blessings, including the birth of their two daughters, Debra ("Debbie") and Raye.
He enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Bud and his family then moved to Fort Bliss where he served as a member of the Field Artillery branch until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Relocating back to Fort Wayne, Bud worked for a variety of companies including Inca, Skelgas, and U.S. Rubber, before beginning a lengthy career with GTE (now Frontier Communications) where he worked as a lineman until his retirement in 1989.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman who cherished time spent deer hunting, fishing, and enjoying the lake. He took special pleasure in keeping his bird feeders stocked, delighting in the sight of the birds that gathered outside his window. A devoted history enthusiast, he enjoyed reading about American history and watching historical films and documentaries. Whether settling into his favorite recliner to enjoy the music of Josh Groban and Barbra Streisand or spending time with his family and friends, Bud treasured life's simple comforts and found his greatest happiness in the moments shared with those he loved.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Bessie of Fort Wayne; his daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Adams of Fort Wayne and Raye (Jeff) Jacobs of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Kay of Fort Wayne, Matt (Lynne) Harnish of Fort Wayne, Holly Jacobs of Fort Wayne, Nathan (Daisy) Harnish of New Haven, Sam Harnish of Woodburn, Dustin (Lindsay) Adams of Woodburn, and Chelsie Adams of Leo; along with nineteen great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his siblings, Dwyine “Dewey” Allgood, Jerry Allgood, Mary Lou Scroghum and Veronica “Ronnie” Gatchell.
A service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 9 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, with visitation one-hour prior (1pm).
