Mark A.
Oberley
December 4, 1954 – November 29, 2024
Mark Anthony Oberley, 69, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by the love from his family.
Born December 4, 1954 in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of the late Elmer Oberley, Jr. and Virginia (Pepe) Oberley Hunsberger. He graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Von Steuben (SSBN-632) submarine from 1975 to 1981. He retired after 34 years of work as an electrician and superintendent of electrical work for Shambaugh & Sons.
Mark was known for his generosity, loyalty, and sense of humor. He was beloved by all who knew him. He enjoyed the simple things in life, such as fishing, gardening, baking, canning salsa, tinkering in his garage, and good conversations over an ice-cold Budweiser. Most importantly, he loved being a family man. From helping raise his younger brothers to caring for his beloved wife, and from providing for his three children to being the world's best "Papa" to his four grandkids, everything he did in life was for the benefit of those he loved most.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Oberley; daughters, Christine (Tony) Chen and Jennifer (Steve) Shank; son, Benjamin Oberley; grandchildren, Braden Shank, Summer Shank, Xander Chen, and Lucy Chen; siblings, Denise Oberley-Landin, Ted (Debra) Oberley, Stuart (Elda) Oberley, Timothy (Gretchen) Oberley, Sr., and Heather McCulloch; and stepmother, Monica (Don) Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Michael Oberley, Matthew Oberley, Kenneth Oberley, and Philip Oberley.
