Obituary

Mary Ann Gladieux Hinsenkamp passed peacefully to her final reward on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was fun, patient, funny, faithful, and always loving. Mary was born on August 11, 1950, the third of seven children, and was preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis Bachman Gladieux and Ivan Gladieux. She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Otis, her daughter, Dawn Otis Swineheart, her granddaughter, Emma Swineheart, her sister, Judith Gladieux Koester, and her brothers, Richard and Ronald Gladieux.

Mary graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1968. While still in school, she worked for Maloley's Grocery Store, where she was eventually promoted from cashier to office manager. Eight years ago, she retired from the Accounting group at SV- Food Marketing Corp in Ft Wayne, IN, where she enjoyed working for 28 years.

Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking and baking with the help of her grandchildren, who were always welcome. She loved hosting her large extended family for holiday dinners. Mary was especially gifted in making Midwest comfort food, including chicken & noodles, pizza, and apple pie. (She passed her gift for cooking to her son). She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays, with the help of her grandkids. Her Snow Village is legendary, and her grandchildren loved helping set it up. She also enjoyed plenty of family lake time over the last 30 years at their Jimmerson Lake home. Mary especially enjoyed taking family vacations with all the kids and grandkids to Orlando, FL. and Gulf Shores, AL.

Mary is survived by her husband of 44 years, James (Jim) Hinsenkamp, with whom she traveled to one of her favorite places, Switzerland. She never forgot this trip and had hoped to return one day.

Mary leaves behind many of the people she loved, including her son and daughter-in-law, Rob & Nicole Hinsenkamp, her son-in-law Nathan Swineheart, and her wonderful and amazing grandchildren: Layla, Olivia, Hunter, Tanner, Alannah Hinsenkamp, and Wesley and Dana Swineheart. She happily supported each of them in all their academic, artistic, and sports activities.

Mary is also survived by her sisters, Jeanne (Tom) Johnson of Orland, IN., Barbara Schuller and Gloria Gladieux of Orlando, Florida, her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ron and Susan Hinsenkamp and Maryanne and Dave Beneke, who were especially helpful in providing loving care during her recent illness, and Rick Koester, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary received excellent care during her time at both Parkview Regional Medical Center and Lutheran Hospital, as well as Ft. Wayne Medical Hematology & Oncology, and Covington Meadows Nursing Home, for which her family is especially grateful.

Mary was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, all of whom will help keep her memory alive. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
