It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Mitchell, a beloved wife and mother, who left us on April 28, 2026. Mary Lou was born on September 22, 1958, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Bennie and Dorothy (Handshoe) Conley. She spent her life making LaOtto, Indiana, her cherished home. She was a dedicated homemaker, known for her warm heart and nurturing spirit.
After graduating high school, she married Daryl W. Mitchell on September 22, 1978, at their home in LaOtto, IN. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, animals, working with Daryl on various projects. She also enjoyed the outdoors, literature, and research.
Mary Lou is survived by her devoted husband, Daryl Mitchell, and her son, Nate (Jennifer) Mitchell. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Memphis & Carly Mitchell, a brother Jeff (Latesa) Conley, a sister, Barbara Bowman. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jerry Conley, a sister, Elizabeth Weber.
Join us in celebrating Mary Lou's life with a Funeral Mass at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Avilla, IN, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM. There will be a one hour prior visitation at the church. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Avilla, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Noble County.
In this time of sorrow, let us gather to remember the wonderful moments we shared with Mary Lou, honoring the joy she brought to our lives. She will be dearly missed but always remembered.
