Mary M. Shutt, 92, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday May1, 2025. Mary was born in Bloomington IL on January 17, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Janick) Gensheimer. She married Donald W. Shutt on November 24, 1951; he preceded her in death on August 3, 2019 after 67 years of marriage. Mary was also preceded by her brother, Bob Gensheimer and sister, Roseann Minich, and nephews, Jeff Chelf, Steve Minich and Tony Minich.
Survivors include her children; Joe (Mary) Shutt of New Haven, Rich (Melissa) Shutt of Jewett TX, Bob (Valorie) Shutt of Woodburn, Barb (Don) Chaney of St. Joe, Tom (Kim) Shutt of New Haven, Diana (Ed) Toy of Roanoke, and Paul Shutt, John (Linda) Shutt, and Mike (Rosann) Shutt, all of Fort Wayne; brother, Edward (Teresa) Gensheimer of Decatur; sisters, Susan Chelf of Fort Wayne and Linda (Terry) Gensheimer of St Paul MN; sister-in-law, Maureen Gensheimer of Fort Wayne; 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Mary was a member of St John the Baptist Parish in New Haven; she enjoyed the outdoors; cycling, camping, hiking, or tending to her garden. She was a lifelong tennis player who kept playing even into her 80s. Mary was also talented in crochet, but her greatest joys in life were always the times she spent with her family & friends.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Tuesday May 5, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St. New Haven, with visitation from 9:30-10:30am in the church. Visitation is also on Monday from 4-8pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne, with the Rosary at 3:30pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. The family's preferred memorial is Right to Life of Northeastern Indiana, online at ichooselife.org, or by mail to 3106 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
